The Year to Simplify

Life isn’t meant to be complicated—sometimes, the key to fulfilment lies in getting back to basics. In The Year to Simplify, we explore how embracing simplicity can bring clarity, joy, and purpose. From prioritising prayer and rest to focusing on what truly nourishes your body and soul, this post is a call to strip away the excess and rediscover the beauty of a slow, intentional life. Because less isn’t just more—it’s everything.

After devouring countless self-help and ancient wisdom books, one truth has consistently stood out to me: life is inherently simple, yet we’ve become experts at overcomplicating it. Modernisation, while bringing convenience, often clouds our ability to appreciate the basics. The truth is, you don’t need extravagant plans or revolutionary changes to transform your life. The secret lies in perfecting the simple, often mundane, things—and doing them consistently well.

Our endless pursuit of dopamine highs leaves us feeling empty. We eat too much yet move too little. Social media promises connection but leaves us more isolated. We design tools to simplify life, but often, they come at the cost of our well-being. Our ancestors thrived with less, and maybe the “more” we chase is not our salvation but our poison. We've been sold the myth that quantity trumps quality—but it’s time to unlearn that.

This year, let’s go back to the basics. Strip away the unnecessary and focus on what truly nourishes your body, mind, and spirit. Prioritise prayer, gratitude, eating well, sleeping better, and finding moments of quiet amidst the chaos. Your body is a temple, a dwelling place for the Holy Spirit. Treat it as such. Watch what you consume—whether it’s food, words, media, or actions—and make your life a reflection of God’s goodness.

Believe in something greater than yourself. Listen to the gentle call inviting you back to your true self. Embrace the power of simplicity and focus on what truly matters:

  • Surround yourself with inspiring people who ignite curiosity and passion.

  • Savour wholesome food that fuels your body.

  • Prioritise quality sleep to recharge and restore.

  • Indulge in hobbies and creativity that bring you joy.

  • Cultivate radical self-acceptance and deep self-love.

The good life isn’t extravagant—it’s simple, intentional, and brimming with joy. So this year, simplify. Strip away the clutter. Focus on what brings peace and purpose. Because in the end, less really is more.
