Embodying Love

Love is not just something we feel or do—it’s who we are meant to be. In this heartfelt reflection, I explore the profound journey of embodying love, inspired by divine truth and the timeless words of 1 Corinthians 13. Discover how aligning with love’s essence transforms the way we see ourselves and others, guiding us to live lives rooted in patience, kindness, and connection. Let’s embrace the ultimate purpose of life: to love deeply, live authentically, and touch the hearts around us.

In recent years, I’ve come to understand that love isn’t just an action or a fleeting feeling—it’s who we are at our core, or rather, who we are meant to be. Our life’s journey should be dedicated to becoming embodiments of love because love is the essence of our being.

If God is love, and we are made in His image, then by extension, we too are love—perhaps a flawed reflection of it, but love nonetheless. Learning to love as God loves us is the ultimate goal. It’s not an easy path, but it’s the most worthwhile. After all, Jesus’ final commandment to His disciples was simple: “Love one another.” That commandment remains as relevant today as it was then.

Life has always been about love. Until we recognise this truth, our struggles will persist. Becoming better lovers—of others and ourselves—is a necessity. Paul gives us the blueprint for embodying love in 1 Corinthians 13:4-8:

"Love is patient and kind, never jealous, boastful, proud, or rude. Love isn't selfish or quick-tempered. It doesn't keep a record of wrongs that others do. Love rejoices in the truth, but not in evil. Love is always supportive, loyal, hopeful, and trusting. Love never fails!"

Now, read that passage again, but this time, replace “love is” or “love isn’t” with “I am” or “I am not.” What qualities resonate? What qualities challenge you? This practice invites us to reflect on how we can align ourselves with the divine love we are called to embody.

At its heart, life is not about achievements, possessions, or status—it’s about love and connection.

Let me leave you with this poignant reminder from Rupi Kaur:

"Most importantly, love like it’s the only thing you know how. At the end of the day, all this means nothing: this page, where you’re sitting, your degree, your job, the money. Nothing even matters except love and human connection. Who you loved and how deeply you loved them, how you touched the people around you, and how much you gave them."

Let’s commit to becoming vessels of love in all its forms—patient, kind, selfless, and enduring. Life begins and ends with love.
